Congressman Collin Peterson's Leadership - On the Issues: 2nd Amendment

Congressman Collin Peterson (D-MN-07) is one of the few Democrats who has an “A” rating from the NRA and has consistently defended Americans’ right to bear arms under the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution.

Congressman Peterson, a member of the House Committee of Veteran Affairs, is the only Democrat to cosponsor the Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act, which would ensure that no veteran loses their Second Amendment right to bear arms simply because VA appoints someone to help them manage their VA benefits.

“As a veteran, and a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, it is beyond me why bureaucrats are going after veterans’ Second Amendment rights,” stated Congressman Peterson. “Just because a veteran has someone manage their VA benefits, shouldn’t disqualify them from owning a firearm. This bill will ensure that veterans’ rights are protected by due process.”

An avid outdoorsman, Congressman Peterson cosponsored the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act of 2015 (The SHARE Act) and was one of only 12 Democrats to vote for the passage of the bill in the House in 2016, unfortunately the Senate did not take up the bill.  The SHARE Act would have expanded access to, and opportunities for, hunting, fishing, and recreational shooting.
