Congressman Collin Peterson’s Leadership – On the Issues: Healthcare

Congressman Collin Peterson (D-MN-07) has been a leader on policies that are the foundation for access to strong healthcare in rural communities in our nation. He sponsored the Rural Hospital Frontier Fairness Act that would provide eligibility for 340B benefits for rural community hospitals. This would allow hospitals to retain the best and brightest in the medical field to serve our rural communities across the country.

Congressman Peterson has a record of fighting the big pharmaceutical companies on behalf of the average American. He has co-sponsored and fought for both the Medicare Negotiation and Competitive Licensing Act of 2019 and the Prescription Drug Price Transparency Act of 2019. Both of these pieces of critical legislation combat the ever-rising prescription drug prices that many Americans are struggling to afford, but desperately need.

Congressman Peterson is an independent voice in Congress who works on a bi-partisan basis to get things done.  He worked with Congressman Dan Webster, R-Florida to reach across party lines to help all rural residents by supporting the Physician Pro Bono Care Act. This important legislation encourages healthcare providers to provide care for low-income Americans on Medicaid and those who are part of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).  This common sense legislation will expand care options for those most in need in our rural communities and has the potential to save billions of dollars in federal healthcare expenditures.

Congressman Peterson has repeatedly put Americans’ healthcare needs above party politics and will continue working alongside Democrats and Republicans to ensure policies are in place to protect the health of rural Americans.
