Vote Expected Next Week in the US House of Representatives
December 10, 2019 – Today, Congressman Collin Peterson (D-MN-07) released a statement in which he responded to the news that negotiators have reached an agreement on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The House of Representatives is expected to vote on the agreement next week.
“I have been pushing for months to get this deal to the finish line, and this announcement is great news for farmers, businesses and workers, in Western Minnesota and nationwide. The threat of leaving NAFTA without a deal would have been devastating, and this deal provides needed certainty for our producers. This agreement makes updates to how the three countries will address biotechnology, and sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) issues. The USMCA also preserves the market our farmers are currently accessing while making modest gains for our dairy, poultry, and wheat growers in the Canadian market. Rural America has faced many hurdles and challenges with these trade wars and passing the USMCA is a step in the right direction.” said Representative Collin Peterson.
“I couldn’t agree more strongly with Congressman Peterson. On behalf of the farmers in the Red River Valley, across the state and country, I want to thank Congressman Peterson for his unwavering leadership on USMCA. After the terrible harvest we had recently in Minnesota, our farmers could use a win that USMCA’s passage would provide. Rep. Peterson has always been there for us and he has delivered again.” said Kelly Erickson, Chairman of CSRC’s Steering Committee, and resident of Hallock, MN.
