Congressman Collin Peterson's Leadership - On the Issues: Agriculture

Congressman Collin Peterson (D-MN-07) is the most senior member of the House Committee on Agriculture and currently serves as its Chairman. He previously served as Chairman in the 110th and 111th Congresses. In January 2019, upon being appointed as Chairman for his second time, Peterson stated: “Our job will be to work together with Republicans to provide responsible oversight of the administration, and pragmatic solutions for all points in the farm and food supply chain. I look forward to the challenge and I’m excited to get to work.”

Congressman Peterson has been an integral leader in the passage of the last four Farm Bills. A champion for agriculture, Congressman Peterson fought for important improvements to the safety net in the 2018 Farm Bill. This included expanded, affordable risk management options for dairy farmers and improvements to the sugar program.

Congressman Peterson is the leader in Washington D.C. who understands rural communities the most. The importance and needs of Minnesotan farming communities cannot be emphasized enough in the national discourse, and Congressman Peterson is the person speaking the loudest for farmers and ranchers in Washington.
